‘It is Heartbreaking’ – PSG Must Make Difficult Decision Regarding Cavani

Now that Paris Saint-Germain made Mauro Icardi’s stay in Paris a permanent one, it leaves Edinson Cavani in a difficult spot.

The 33-year-old can sign an extension with Les Parisiens and be Icardi’s backup or venture off and look for a starting position with another club.

Although El Matador is reportedly open to reducing his salary to remain in Paris, it was perhaps under the impression that the Urugyuan would remain the starter.

However, with Icardi now officially staying in PSG, Cavani is looking at other options. It’s the right move for the capital club to move on from their all-time leading goal scorer considering his age and the drop in form, according to RMC Sport journalist Daniel Riolo who took, the microphone on the media network (via ParisFans).

Icardi was taken last summer to prepare for the post-Cavani period, and he was kept for a sum which is far from being crazy. Afterward, keep Cavani as a back-up, with the salary he has,” Riolo said. “It’s always difficult to cut ties with a player who represents so much, who was also emblematic. It is heartbreaking. But it’s better that it is well done than in endless years.”

Although it will hurt to see a fan favorite depart, it’s a decision that must occur as the club transitions into the post-Cavani era. The Uruguayan is leaving a legacy that compares to the likes of Pauleta, Rai, and George Weah.

If Cavani does leave, it’s not goodbye forever since the Parc des Princes will always be El Matador‘s home.
