FC Barcelona’s first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match against Napoli is on Wednesday. However, before the contest, one of the topics in the press conferences was the future of Frenkie de Jong.

The 26-year-old vented his frustration over the constant rumors that have linked him to clubs like PSG. Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández backed his player over the reports that the Spanish and football media published.

“I understand it perfectly,” Xavi told reporters (h/t SPORT). “Any player who is at Barça feels injustice because lies are told about him. [de Jong is a] very important and capital player for the team.”

A recent report from a Spanish media outlet has revealed that PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester United are closely monitoring the situation involving Barcelona and de Jong.

According to the latest updates from SPORT, PSG has expressed interest in acquiring de Jong, with reports indicating they are prepared to offer €60 million for his services.

The Athletic recently published an article listing players whom the Ligue 1 team should target for the post-Mbappé era, highlighting how the former Ajax player could seamlessly integrate into manager Luis Enrique’s tactical framework.
