Icardi Announces Return to Milan on Instagram

Mauro Icardi’s Instagram Story on Tuesday probably raised a few eyebrows as the Paris Saint-Germain striker posted an image of him at his residence in Milan with the San Siro in the background. The text accompanying the photo simply read, “Buongiorno Milano.”

Icardi and his family have been in Italy for weeks now due to the coronavirus pandemic but they had been quarantined at their estate along Lake Como.

The 27-year-old striker is on a season-long loan at Paris Saint-Germain from Inter Milan with a €70 million option to buy should the Ligue 1 champions decide they want to retain him.

With PSG facing colossal financial losses due to the coronavirus, it’s not a foregone conclusion that PSG will pay that price tag especially for a striker that sat out both games against Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League.

Could the post be a hint that he wants to return to Milan and Serie A? Probably not, but it’s no secret that he probably prefers to be in Italy where his family is most comfortable.

If PSG can’t negotiate a lower fee with Inter Milan, Icardi may have no but to remain in Italy as I can’t see the Les Parisiens paying the full amount for a striker that tailed off towards the end of the season.
