Grading PSG: Navas Had Sensational Debut Season in Paris

Now that the 2019-20 Ligue 1 season is over, it’s time to hand out some grades to the Paris Saint-Germain players for their performance in the French top flight.

Note: In order to be graded, each player needed to have appeared in at least five Ligue 1 matches this season.

Keylor Navas

Intro: Keylor Navas arrived from Real Madrid last summer with Alphonse Areola going the opposite direction. There was no doubt that the three-time UEFA Champions League winner was going to be the first-choice goalkeeper but there was some concern that PSG might be repeating the mistake they made the previous season with Gianluigi Buffon who was well past his prime.

Navas quickly put all concerns to rest and his debut season in the French capital was a positive one. Statistics show he was one of the best goalkeepers in the French league but he still has room for improvement heading into next season.

Stats:

21 Appearances
11 Clean Sheets
18 Goals Conceded
105 Minutes per Goal Against

Final Grade: A-

Outlook: Injuries to defenders in front of Navas and an unacceptable situation at right-back likely led to several conceded goals this season. If PSG can bring in some defensive reinforcements, and perhaps a quality back-up goalkeeper to provide some competition, the best of Navas may be yet to come.
