Paris Saint-Germain had another memorable season under Luis Enrique, but sustaining success is often more difficult than winning a single trophy. It requires the right coach, mentality, and, of course, the right players.
Heading into next season, based on all the Ligue 1 predictions and analysis, Les Parisiens will be the favorites to win yet another league title; however, it’s in the UEFA Champions League that PSG are truly tested. Currently, PSG’s squad is full of world-class players, but could success lead to some players looking for a new challenge?
The biggest name on PSG’s squad who could be on the move this summer is Bradley Barcola. The 23-year-old will represent France at this summer’s FIFA World Cup, but he’s coming off a disappointing season in the French capital. With a contract that expires in 2028, now could be the time for PSG to entertain transfer offers from Liverpool FC and other top clubs.
Gonçalo Ramos is another attacker who may have played his last game in a PSG shirt. Ramos has never been a regular starter under Luis Enrique’s system, but his ability to score goals late as a substitute could make him very attractive to clubs that need a proven goalscorer. With both Barcola and Ramos potentially leaving, look for PSG to sign at least one world-class attacker to replace them.
Lucas Chevalier only arrived at PSG last summer from Lille, but already, the 24-year-old goalkeeper has worn out his welcome. After a rocky start to his career at PSG, Chevalier was benched earlier this year in favor of Matvey Safonov, who has been outstanding in relief. Chevalier, who missed out on the France World Cup squad, will certainly want to be a regular starter elsewhere and could force a move this summer. If PSG can at least recoup the transfer fee they paid for Chevalier, I think it would be a win for the club.
Finally, Ibrahim Mbaye is a player with immense potential, but like Chevalier, he may want more regular playing time and request a transfer. It would be a big blow for PSG as they’ve lost several talented youngsters to the transfer window over the years.
Despite the potential departures, Luis Enrique and Luis Campos, PSG’s football advisor, have a plan and a sporting project that is the envy of every club in Europe. Attracting top talent shouldn’t be an issue; however, signing players during the World Cup is always tricky, so PSG will need a sound strategy. It should be an interesting summer transfer window.
