Official Lineup: The 4-4-2 Experiment Continues Against Lille

Lille OSC has the best home record in Ligue 1 and the last time Paris Saint-Germain visited the Stade Pierre Mauroy, they lost 5-1 in the most lopsided loss for the club since 2011.

With that in mind, manager Thomas Tuchel went with the strongest starting XI that he could with the players available.

Lining up in the 4-4-2 formation, Angel Di Maria, Mauro Icardi, Kylian Mbappé, and Neymar Jr. lead the attack with Marco Verratti and Idrissa Gueye in the midfield.

I predicted that Tuchel would go with a midfield duo of Verratti and Herrera to get the Spaniard some game time ahead of the UEFA Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund but he clearly favors the Senegal international at the moment.

On defense, Abdou Diallo fills in at left-back to cover for Juan Bernat, who is out injured, and Layvin Kurzawa, who is also out as his transfer situation is sorted out. With the Frenchman on the backline is Presnel Kimpembe, Thiago Silva, and Thomas Meunier. Keylor Navas holds things down between the sticks.

I’m a bit nervous heading into this match. Tuchel has already lost Marquinhos for three weeks due to injury and he can’t afford to lose any more players, especially Mbappé and Neymar.

Hopefully, PSG can put this game away early so that Tuchel can bring off his best players and save their legs and keep them from picking up a knock.
