Many expect Kylian Mbappé to leave Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires in June and join Real Madrid. Nonetheless, is pursuing the Frenchman the right call for the Spanish giants? One pundit doesn’t believe so.
Real Madrid have had an obsession with Mbappé, who has rejected them in the past. Still, all signs point to him signing with the team this summer as a free agent. RMC Sport pundit Daniel Riolo notes that Los Blancos pursuing the winger isn’t the right move.
Riolo states that the La Liga team have a good core of players, and should pursue a right-winger like Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah instead of Mbappé, who has no desire to be a No. 9 and will cause Vinicius Junior to move over to the right-wing position.
“Vinicius is an extraordinary player,” Riolo said (h/t Le10 Sport). “Sometimes there are things that I don’t understand in a club’s sports policy, and I don’t understand why Real Madrid want Mbappé. Since it’s going to end like this. When you have Vinicius, when you have Rodrygo, when you have Jude Bellingham…
“Take a No. 9 or someone for the right side, go get Mohamed Salah! Everything is possible in building a team, of course, but I don’t see what Mbappé will bring more than a No. 9 sportingly.”
It will be interesting to see how this move plays out over the years and whether either side regrets it due to the ripple effect it will have on the Real Madrid squad.
