Monaco vs PSG: Vanderson’s Thoughts on the Decisive Ligue 1 Match

This 2023-24 Ligue 1 season will see Paris Saint-Germain fight several clubs to win the league. Heading into the November FIFA international break, the French giants finally stand alone atop the standings (27 points).

Nonetheless, PSG currently has no breathing room. OGC Nice is presently in second place (26 points), AS Monaco (24 points) in third place, and even Lille OSC isn’t too far behind with (20 points) in fourth place.

When club football resumes after the international break, the Parisians will face Monaco on Nov. 24 at the Parc des Princes. The matchup would be the first of a few significant matches to close out 2023.

Monaco’s Vanderson recently spoke with Get French Football and shared his thoughts regarding the crucial matchup midway through the Ligue 1 season.

“It’s a big match,” Vanderson said. “I don’t know (why we’ve had such success against PSG recently). We work a lot to prepare for all of the matches. As we have done in recent years, we’re going to try and play a good match and take the three points.

“We’re going to try and finish as high as possible this season, finish in the Europa League or Champions League. A key match for the title? Maybe, but everyone wants to win the title. Last season, we didn’t finish high enough, we’ll try and finish as high as possible this season, that’s the objective.

A win over Les Rouge et Blanc would create some distance for PSG. Furthermore, it would mean just worrying about Nice behind them. Meanwhile, a potential Monaco victory over the French giants means an even tighter race.
