When Paris Saint-Germain signed Marco Verratti to a multiyear extension deal in December, it seemed as if there would be no more questions regarding the midfielder’s future with the Ligue 1 powerhouse. This all changed mere months later, and one could win big at a Syndicate Casino online.
A multitude of reports surfaced earlier this month regarding Verratti’s future at PSG, and they noted that the Italian international is open to leaving the Ligue 1 side after 11 seasons.
Rafaela Pimenta, Verratti’s agent, recently fueled speculation regarding the midfielder’s future at PSG.
“An Italian sooner or later thinks of going home,” Pimenta said. “He always wants to go. I can’t say that’s not the case for him. Now, PSG must finish the championship; we will see later. There are always things said, false things, which come from the press.”
As Pimenta touched on, Verratti opened up his footballing career in Italy. He featured in four seasons with Italian side Pescara before he opted to take his talents to PSG.
Overall, PSG should not look to part ways with Verratti during this year’s summer transfer window.
Verratti has had a roller-coaster 11th season at PSG. While he has been a reliable midfielder for PSG in all competitions, he has orchestrated multiple sluggish performances in must-win fixtures for the club, including in the second leg of its UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie against Bayern Munich. He committed a costly error on Bayern Munich’s first goal sequence of the contest, and he was dribbled past an astounding eight times.
Verratti has at the least shown this season that he can still compete at a high level for PSG. From his keen on-ball prowess to his ability to simply be a potent press-resistant midfielder, he continues to showcase that he has plenty left in the tank at this point in his career.
As PSG manager Christophe Galtier recently noted, Verratti is quite a valuable member of the club’s roster.
“Marco is an important player,” Galtier said during a pre-match press conference ahead of PSG’s Ligue 1 fixture against Auxerre. “When he is not there, you can see and feel it in the game. The team had a gap in the game, especially due to the absence of many key players.
“I think that the criticism of Marco is quite severe compared to what he does on the field.”
Even if PSG ends up receiving notable transfer offers for Verratti in the coming months, it still should not look to offload him.
