Paris Saint-Germain is often criticized for plucking some of the young talents in Ligue 1, much like Bayern Munich has done in the Bundesliga. Bayern Munich isn’t afraid to maneuver its way to land some of the top German players in their league.
Nonetheless, 90min reports that the capital club is interested in Stade de Reims forward Hugo Ekitike. The 19-year-old striker has made 18 appearances for the French club, scoring eight goals and registering four assists.
The English media speculates that Ekitike could be a possible replacement for Kylian Mbappé, who’s linked to a possible departure when his contract expires in June. However, PSG could pursue the 19-year-old to replace Mauro Icardi, who’s also seeing his name in rumors.
Even if Mbappé decides to extend, going after Ekitike would be ideal as PSG would have someone who can take some of the goal-scoring responsibilities off the shoulders of the 23-year-old.
Along with Les Parisiens, Premier League club, Newcastle United would like to secure the young player. Newcastle and Reims have been in talks for the last week, and those are ongoing.
