Nasser Al-Khelaifi Congratulates Lionel Messi for Winning Ballon d’Or, Gianluigi Donnarumma Receiving Yashin Trophy

Paris Saint-Germain was present during the Ballon d’Or presentation as two capital club players came away with some awards.

Gianluigi Donnarumma won the Yashin Trophy, given to the best goalkeeper. The 22-year-old beat out Chelsea FC’s Edouard Mendy for the award, which came with some controversy as some believed the 29-year-old should’ve won.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi claimed his seventh Ballon d’Or of his career, which also came with its share of controversy. Many hoped that FC Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski would win the award.

Nonetheless, club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi spoke to PSG TV, giving glowing praise for both players for their respective individual achievements and helping put the Ligue 1 side on another global stage.

“I want to warmly congratulate Leo. It is a great pride for the Club that one of our players won the most prestigious and coveted title,” Al-Khelaifi said.

“It is a great pride for the Club that one of our players has won the most prestigious and coveted title. Leo marks the history of football a little more. As all our supporters around the world, we are delighted to see one of the greatest players of all time playing in the Red and Blue jersey.”

“We are proud to see Gianluigi win the Yashin Trophy. Lifting this trophy at the age of 22 is an extraordinary achievement, and we are certain that he will greatly contribute to the success of the Paris Saint-Germain project in the seasons to come.”

Along with having Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappé, Les Parisiens also have quality talent on their squad, and this night further represents their project of having the best of the best. Now it’s time to put it all together and win a Champions League.
