Ancelotti Makes a Surprising Claim About This Season’s Tight Ligue 1 Title Race

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti is closely following this season’s Ligue 1 title race but is surprisingly not backing his former club against underdogs Lille OSC.

The Ligue 1 title race heads into matchday 38 with still no winner crowned. In seasons past, PSG managed to clinch the league title by March or April. This time around, Lille has not only competed with PSG throughout the season at the top of the league table but currently holds a slim one-point lead.

Many former PSG players and even managers are surely pulling for the French powerhouse to once again claim the league title. However, Ancelotti is not among them.

In speaking to Canal Football Club (via L’Equipe), the former PSG manager explained why he is backing Lille to finish off the season as Ligue 1 champions.

“I’m happy that my friend Christophe Galtier can win Ligue 1,” Ancelotti said. “For him, for Lille, for the French Championship, it can be a fantastic thing. I know that the PSG supporters would probably not be very happy, but if Lille wins Ligue 1, it will be very good for football.”

PSG will be taking on Brest on matchday 38 while Lille clashes with Angers.
