Silva Compares Playing in Ligue 1 to Early Run in the Premier League

Thiago Silva has accommodated well to his new run with Chelsea FC. The former PSG defender is now a regular starter for the Blues and has emerged as one of the top defenders in the Premier League this season. For a player who was once doubted as being past his prime, Silva is showcasing why he has been one of the top quality defenders in world football as of late.

In a pre-match press conference on Monday with the Brazilian national team, Silva reflected (via Abola) on his run playing in Ligue 1 and early games over in the Premier League. For Silva, he has noticed a clear contrast in the style of play from both leagues and what is required of him as a defender.

“The French Championship is a little more physical and stronger, and now PSG has dominion over their opponents and we had to take a little more risk,” Silva said. “In the last two games I ended up with headaches because there is a lot of aerial play and a very high pace.”

Silva emerged as one of the top defensive talents in Ligue 1 history during his time with PSG. And so far with Chelsea, he has picked up where he left off while with PSG due to his strong form in play this season.
