Icardi Compares Playing in Ligue 1 to his Run in Serie A

Mauro Icardi made a name for himself during his run in Serie A. Over his six seasons while with Inter Milan, he recorded multiple seasons with at least 20 goals scored, which very few active players today can say that they also achieved. He emerged as one of the stout goal-scorers in the game during his notable Serie A run.

Now in Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain, Icardi has had mixed results. When healthy, Icardi is among the top consistent goal-scorers in the league. But due to several injuries over his two seasons in the French league, he has had to spend a bulk of time on the sidelines watching his teammates take care of business on the pitch.

Icardi spoke to PSG TV in-depth about his adaptation from playing in Serie A to his current run in Ligue 1. He has noticed several notable differences between the two leagues, but the goal remains the same for him.

“For us for the players, it is important that we adapt quickly,” Icardi said. “When we go from one club to another, from one championship to another. Me that’s what I tried to do every day working in training. Try to understand what the coach is asking for and do the best you can.

“Ligue 1 is a very physical, very tough championship and in Serie A also the physical aspect counts, but the game is much more tactical in Italy than in France.”

The physicality aspect in Ligue 1 is one that quite a number of other talents have surely noticed over their early runs in the league. But in Icardi’s case, he has adapted quite well so far.
