Paris Saint-Germain’s pursuit of a midfielder to bolster their squad suffered a setback as their bid for AC Milan’s Ismaël Bennacer was rejected.
According to Le10Sport, PSG’s sporting director submitted an offer of €30 million for Bennacer but Leonardo’s bid was immediately rejected as the Rossoneri don’t want to sell the Algeria international after a breakout 2019-20 season.
Transfermarkt rates Bennacer’s value at €17.5 million, so already, PSG is paying a premium on the player who is under contract with Milan until 2024. Leonardo could make another bid but I can’t imagine it will be for much more with other priorities within the squad that must be addressed during the upcoming transfer window.
If Bennacer doesn’t make the move to the Parc des Princes, Leonardo will likely bring in another player from Milan where he was the sporting director for a season before joining PSG. The newly crowned Ligue 1 champions have been linked with Gianluigi Donnarumma, Lucas Paquetá, and Théo Hernandez in recent weeks.
