It’s really not a difficult decision. Paris Saint-Germain should retain Mauro Icardi instead of offering Edinson Cavani a contract extension.
The numbers back that up and the only reason you would keep Cavani in the French capital is for sentimental reasons.
Keeping Icardi after his loan from Inter Milan expires at the end of the season will cost PSG €70 million, but that’s the going rate for a striker of his quality and he reportedly is now interested in staying at the Parc des Princes. Hopefully, Inter will be willing to give PSG a discount especially if they ship Julian Draxler or Leandro Paredes to the Nerazzurri.
Cavani won’t be out of work long though. According to Tuttosport (via Sempre Inter), Inter and Atlético Madrid will battle it out for El Matador‘s signature. Inter will be looking to replace Icardi and potentially Lautaro Martínez if he leaves for FC Barcelona and Atléti tried to sign Cavani last January and they are desperate for a quality striker.
This season, the 33-year-old Cavani scored seven goals in 22 appearances.
