Like a punch to the gut, French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced to the country that sporting events will not take place before September, which effectively canceled the 2019-20 Ligue 1 season.
We’re still waiting to hear if Paris Saint-Germain will be crowned champions or if the season will be voided as if it didn’t happen at all.
Then there’s the UEFA Champions League. PSG reached the quarter-finals with a thrilling win over Borussia Dortmund back in early March but that competition could be canceled as well.
At the very least, we know PSG will not be able to host a game at the Parc des Princes since UEFA would like to resume the tournament in August, a month before any sporting events can take place in France. Club president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, has already stated that his team is ready to play wherever and whenever.
With all of this uncertainty, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that PSG supporters expressed a wave of emotion on social media. From Neymar Jr.’s bad luck to conspiracy theories, here are the best tweets I received after sharing the news that the Ligue 1 season would be canceled.
Neymar’s luck: season 1- injury, season 2- injury, season 3- the pandemic after finally fit. So unlucky man, especially after the psg Dortmund performance

We truly are cursed… but I wouldn’t have expected clubs to be able to play at their home venues in the first place. Figured it’d be in a country w low case numbers, & where all teams can play in a few if not one neutral stadium.

This could work out in PSG favor, coz playing in one leg match on neutral venue,it takes pressure off the boys. They won’t be reminded of Barca matches or previous matches,it will be a brand new experience for the boys ,so that means less pressure. They can go for it now.

I think it’s good for the well being of the players and supporters alike. No reason to make these players play a tight schedule, 2 domestic cups finals, UCL then start new season immediately while playing all this over and Euros and WC qualifiers. Give these dudes a break, reset

How will they compete in the CL if they hadn’t had a competitive game in more than 4 months? Its over either way
