Video: Cavani Scores First Goal for PSG After Failed Transfer to Atlético Madrid

After a brief spell where Olympique Lyonnais scored two goals to come within one of Paris Saint-Germain and appeared well on their way to scoring an equalizer, a familiar face stepped in to rescue Les Parisiens.

In the 76th minute, Edinson Cavani replaced Mauro Icardi and three minutes later, he scored a brilliant goal to give PSG the cushion they needed to see out the rest of the game.

Angel Di Maria received the ball on the wing with plenty of space in front of him. Already with one goal to his name on the night, the Argentine could have taken on the shot but instead, he drew a defender towards him, which left Cavani wide open.

Di Maria slipped a pass over to El Matador who turned back the clock with a vintage blast into the back of the net.

The goal was Cavani’s first in Ligue 1 since August 18 against Stade Rennais.

The Uruguayan hasn’t played in over a month due to the transfer negotiations between PSG and Atlético Madrid that took place in January. After the Spanish club refused to meet PSG’s price tag, Cavani had no choice but to remain at the club where he is the all-time leading scorer and will see out the rest of his contract, which expires in June.
