PSG on the Verge of Scoring Its 4,000th Goal

Paris Saint-Germain celebrates its 50th year of existence in 2020 and while we must wait until the start of next season for those festivities to begin, we could get see the club accomplish one milestone that is certainly worth celebrating.

After beating AS Monaco last Wednesday by a score of 4-1, PSG technically sits at 3,999 goals scored in all competitions, but the club is only recognizing 3,996.

According to Le Parisien, the “controversy” over the exact number of goals stems from two matches in 1992 and 2001 because both matches were interrupted. A pitch invasion would put a halt to the game in 1992 where PSG was up 2-3. Meanwhile, a blackout marked the end of a 1-0 match in 2001.

Despite technically having 3,999 goals in their history, we will all go with what the club is acknowledging. Also, looking at the number of goals PSG has scored, it puts into perspective the quality of forwards that have worn the PSG colors. George Weah, Pauleta, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani, Kylian Mbappé, and Neymar Jr. have all contributed to the rich history of PSG.

With Les Parisiens taking on FC Lorient on Sunday, perhaps this is the match where we see the 4,000 goal scored.
