Paris Saint-Germain’s 2024-25 season might go down as the most memorable in club history. They’ve already clinched the Ligue 1 title, they’re in the final for the Coupe de France, and they’re in the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League. But, could they win the Premier League?
Obviously, PSG doesn’t play in the Premier League, so this is all speculation, but it’s an interesting premise. Les Parisiens have come up against several English clubs this season, and given the results, it’s hard to argue they wouldn’t at least be at the top of the table contending for the title.
PSG’s first matchup against a Premier League team was Arsenal, back on October 1. Luis Enrique’s squad fell 2-0 in North London and was outplayed by the Gunners. On that night, Arsenal was the more physical side and dominated on set pieces. If you were to go by this match alone, you probably would think PSG might finish mid-table if they were lucky. A lot has changed since then.
From mid-December on, PSG has been one of the best teams in Europe. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what changed, but there’s no denying the results. There was the comeback against Manchester City in late January that helped clinch a spot in the knockout phase playoffs. Then PSG faced a daunting tie against the Premier League leaders, Liverpool FC in the Round of 16. PSG was unlucky to lose the first leg 1-0 at the Parc des Princes, but at Anfield, PSG led 1-0 after 90 minutes and went on to advance past Liverpool after winning on penalties.
The aggregate score against Liverpool wasn’t impressive on paper, but anyone who watched PSG’s performance would tell you that they were clearly the better side, and it wasn’t that close. In the quarter-finals of the Champions League, PSG faced yet another Premier League side, Aston Villa. In the first leg, PSG cruised to a 3-1 victory and should reach the semi-finals, barring a monumental collapse. Should they advance, they will likely face Arsenal, who lead 3-0 over Real Madrid after the first leg.
A matchup against Arsenal would give PSG the opportunity to fix the one major blemish on their season resume. Mikel Arteta’s side sits second in the Premier League, and should PSG beat them over two legs, it’s difficult to say they wouldn’t win the league if given the opportunity. They’ve taken on the best that league has to offer, and no one has had an answer for Les Parisiens.
