Barcelona Breathes Easy as PSG Drops Pursuit of €70M-Rated Sensation, Report Says

Tweaking the midfield might be one of Paris Saint-Germain’s priorities this summer. Over the last few months, the capital club have been linked to various players to improve the position for next season.

One of the players on PSG’s radar is FC Barcelona standout Frenkie de Jong. The Spanish club is in a financial situation and needs to sell players to raise funds to improve the team.

PSG, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United have been touted as his suitors heading into the summer. As for the Parisians, though, it seems the Ligue 1 champions have closed the file on pursuing de Jong.

According to Diario SPORT, PSG has decided to call off its pursuit of de Jong in the upcoming summer transfer window. A few months ago, De Jong’s agent was formally informed that PSG was considering a major overhaul of its midfield.

PSG plans to prioritize allocating the majority of its financial resources towards securing a replacement for Kylian Mbappé, reinforcing the flanks, and strengthening the defense.

The coaches are convinced that Vitinha’s significant progress in the latter part of the season merits their trust, suggesting that recruiting another player with a similar profile may not be necessary.

The 27-year-old made 30 appearances across all competitions for the Catalan side this 2023-24 season, scoring two goals and recording zero assists. Transfermarkt puts the Dutch player’s transfer value at €70 million.
