Paris Saint-Germain could be looking to land an FC Barcelona player again soon. According to a recent report, a PSG scout was present at the Barcelona and Napoli second-leg match to watch Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí.
On Tuesday, the Spanish powerhouse took to the field, moving past Napoli and securing a spot in the quarterfinals. Yet, amidst the celebrations, the capital club loomed in the background.
The Parisians haven’t been shy about pulling the trigger to land players from the Catalan side, from Neymar Jr. to Ousmane Dembélé. Nonetheless, how realistic is this interest? CBS Sports’ Jonathan Johnson touched on the subject in his column for CaughtOffside.
Johnson notes that Yamal fits the profile that PSG are looking for, but questions whether the capital club really wants to spend a large sum on one player rather than spreading the funds around.
“Yamal is certainly one of the world’s most exciting prospects, so the links make sense,” Johnson wrote. “Still, is a deal for Yamal actually realistic? I think if PSG could move for him at a favorable price, but if it’s a question of triggering his release clause at Barcelona, and we know that they have extremely elevated release clauses, I don’t think that’s a realistic scenario.
“PSG will have money to spend once Mbappe moves on, but the way I’d expect them to spend that is to go a handful of players, rather than blowing it all on one name.”
Reports suggest that PSG are willing to offer €200 million for Yamal, but that seems far-fetched. As a result, it didn’t take long for the rumor to get debunked as the capital club has Bradley Barcola and Dembélé in that position. Still, could the Ligue 1 giants not help themselves and instead pursue the talented youngster?
I dont know where you heard 200 million. PSG it is 1 billion. Stop dreaming
