Paris Saint-Germain has been linked with Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford in the past year. During a segment on ESPN FC, the panel debated whether the Red Devils would entertain the idea of selling the player to PSG.
Rob Dawson highlighted several reasons why selling Rashford to PSG or any other club would make sense financially for Manchester United. Not only does a sale allow the Englishman a fresh start, but it also benefits the club from a Financial Fair Play standpoint.
“For a long time, [fans] saw him as the face of Man United,” Dawson said. “As a guy that’s born in Manchester [and] who’s come up through the academy, that’s the exact type of player that they want to see in the first team. But for the first time, some United fans are thinking that maybe he does need a change of scenery. Maybe this is the time to move him on.
“The interesting point with that is that Man United have got Financial Fair Play issues and the one thing that solves those is to get rid or move on academy graduates. Because when you move those players on, it’s pure profit because they’ve got a book value of zero.”
PSG will look at different files to replace Kylian Mbappé this summer. However, do the French giants want to gamble on Rashford instead of taking on a player who would come in with confidence?
There’s also the thought of buying low on Rashford, who has scored five goals and registered six assists in 32 appearances across all competitions this season, hoping he regains his past form.
It will be interesting to see if, from a financial standpoint, Manchester United decides that now is the time to cut ties with their former academy product.
