Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona will face off in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals. Furthermore, the matchup marks Luis Enrique’s return to the club he guided to the 2015 UEFA Champions League.
Enrique spoke with the media ahead of PSG’s clash with Montpellier on Sunday. The Spanish tactician shared his thoughts on the draw and noted his excitement to return to Barcelona since he spent time as a player and coach there.
“Well, we were lucky because we are returning to Spain,” Enrique told reporters (h/t Paris Fans). “You know that the Spanish, we love our country very much, and in my particular case, I am returning to Barcelona, which is the city where I spent most of my sporting career.
“It’s in the city where I feel good. That’s very good news. The competition was going to give us a very high-level team, a very difficult team, and individual quality at the highest level.”
After Friday’s draw, Rafael Yuste, vice president of Barcelona, chatted with CANAL+ about the draw and shared his initial thoughts on the matchup. Yuste revealed his admiration for Enrique and noted how the team intends to navigate the two legs since he knows their manager, Xavi Hernandez, so well, having coached the player.
The winner of this matchup will face either Atletico Madrid or Borussia Dortmund, so a victory in the quarterfinals will have PSG or Barcelona on a clear path to the final in London.
