Bayern Munich Likely to Retain Sought-After Talent Despite Liverpool, PSG Interest

Paris Saint-Germain looks to strengthen their midfield this summer, preparing for a potential future without Kylian Mbappé. One name rumored to improve the position is Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich.

Recently, a column on CaughtOffside from Ben Jacobs noted that Manchester City and Liverpool are in on the veteran midfielder. Kimmich’s name popped up as a potential target in the January transfer window.

However, if the Parisians desire an experienced German midfielder, they’ll have stiff competition for the veteran, who will be under contract until 2025. Nonetheless, CBS Sports journalist Jonathan Johnson believes that Kimmich will remain with the German side despite his name being in the rumor mill.

“In terms of Kimmich, I think the Kimmich will be a very interesting addition for PSG, as well as somebody who brings a good level of versatility and a big boost in midfield, but someone who could also fill in at right back as and when Hakimi is unavailable, which will be the case, by the way, for the first leg of the quarterfinals,” Johnson told PSG Talk. “But the only thing that I would say is that now he’s kind of been part of this very difficult period for Bayern Munich.

“Kimmich, where they started to suffer in a similar way to how we saw PSG suffering with too many stars in recent years, back in the days of Neymar and Messi. And Kimmich seems to be somebody who will probably be kept on by Bayern, I think, in terms of a regeneration project for whoever follows on from Thomas Tuchel.”

Le Parisien’s Laurent Perrin notes that former PSG manager Thomas Tuchel is opting to leave after this season. The 29-year-old is re-evaluating his future. If Kimmich remains with the Bundesliga side, PSG must cross him off their list of targets and look at other files.
