Recent reports reveal Kylian Mbappé could leave Paris Saint-Germain after the 2023-24 season. If that’s accurate, then the Parisians need to find a replacement for his production.
One of the names circulating in the rumor mill is Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian is a player who could aid the capital club in helping replace the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s production should he depart this year.
However, ESPN doesn’t see the 25-year-old returning to Ligue 1. The out believes that Osimhen will be Premier League-bound this summer, with Chelsea being the likely destination.
“He has a huge €130 million release clause in his contract and that rules out all but a handful of destinations,” ESPN’s Sam Tighe wrote. “PSG may look to replace Mbappé with him; otherwise it’s only the top-end Premier League clubs, or those from Saudi Arabia (who he has already turned down) who can find that money.
“Luckily for Osimhen, his skillset suits pretty much any league, style, or team, so he’ll probably do well wherever he ends up. But a move to big-spending Chelsea, who have been looking to solve their striker problem for years, looks most likely.”
ESPN FC pundit Frank Leboeuf has listed two players he wants to see replace Mbappé should he leave his hometown club this year. The Frenchman views Osimhen or Brentford’s Ivan Toney as ideal targets for the Ligue 1 giants to pursue.
PSG must prepare for a potential squad that doesn’t include Mbappé, but if ESPN is correct, then they might have to cross Victor Osimhen off their list.
