Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma recently spoke with Le Journal du Dimanche on many topics, including manager Luis Enrique.
The Italian shot-stopper has been criticizing this first half of the season. Even rumors of PSG pursuing a goalkeeper have surfaced in the last few months. Nonetheless, despite the criticism, Enrique still puts out Donnarumma.
Donnarumma recently revealed his reaction to Enrique’s decision to keep him in the starting lineup, despite some mistakes he made in the first half of the 2023-24 season.
“Yes, I would like to say that it is a pleasure and a privilege for me to be a Luis Enrique player,” Donnarumma said (h/t Paris Fans). “[Enrique] is a great coach who makes his teams play well. He wants his players to dominate; he always plays with the ball, and he doesn’t put pressure on you.
“If you make a mistake, he’ll tell you that it’s normal, that you’re not a robot… For me, playing this way has many more advantages than disadvantages.”
AC Milan’s goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, a PSG youth product, is considering his options as several top European clubs show interest in signing him.
Maignan’s contract with the Serie A side runs until 2026, leaving room for negotiation on a new contract. Nonetheless, clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are closely monitoring the situation.
It will be interesting to see what happens as the situation unfolds and whether PSG brings back another French talent to Ligue 1.
