Kylian Mbappé is playing on an expiring contract this 2023–24 season, as the Frenchman can hit free agency next summer. As a result, there’s plenty of speculation regarding what the Paris Saint-Germain star will do.
The 24-year-old opted not to trigger the option to extend his contract until 2025. So, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner will fully control where he’ll continue his career. All signs point to Real Madrid, but alternative destinations such as Liverpool exist.
However, ESPN FC pundit Frank Leboeuf believes his compatriot won’t consider heading to Anfield next summer.
“Manchester City or Bayern Munich could potentially move for Mbappe, but I think those two clubs already have great players. I think Liverpool could be an option, but I’m not sure Mbappe will want to live there!” Leboeuf said (h/t GOAL). “That’s all due respect to the Scousers!”
PSG has put Mbappé at the center of their project and surrounded him with players with whom he’s familiar. Furthermore, the capital club has shifted toward being a French club with the signings of Lucas Hernandez, Ousmane Dembélé, and Randal Kolo Muani.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid played the waiting game as they didn’t make a move for the player this past summer. Los Blancos hope they can finally land the superstar player to put at the center of their project.
