Ex-Barcelona Teammate Not Disappointed by Lionel Messi During His Time at PSG

The Lionel Messi era at Paris Saint-Germain didn’t go as planned, considering the capital club didn’t win the UEFA Champions League. Furthermore, the French giants barely won the Ligue 1 title last season.

Despite these issues, former FC Barcelona teammate Thierry Henry wasn’t disappointed by the Argentine’s time in the French capital. The 1998 FIFA World Cup winner also noted why the team didn’t succeed in those two seasons.

“Disappointed with Messi at PSG? No,” Henry said on Rothen s’enflamme. “I know you’re going to laugh again, but how do you play with Messi, Neymar and Mbappé at the same time? When he played with the Argentina team, a structure where there are not three Messi’s, but just him, it puts him in a framework where he alone is the boss.”

PSG having these three attackers wasn’t going to track back and defend along with a thing roster because their wages also didn’t help build that depth and invest into other positions.

Had the squad been Messi and Kylian Mbappé and PSG sold Neymar like they did this summer and used his wages to build more depth, perhaps the situation might have worked.

Nonetheless, after two seasons in Paris, it appears that the 2022 FIFA World Cup wants to forget about his time there for the moment. Will it become a situation where time heals all wounds, or will the pettiness last forever?
