Could Ousmane Dembélé Regret Leaving Barcelona? Journalist Explains Why

Ousmane Dembélé was one of the marquee signings for Paris Saint-Germain this summer transfer window. The 26-year-old will play alongside his French national team teammates, Kylian Mbappé and Randal Kolo Muani.

Still, could the Frenchman regret his move from FC Barcelona to the French capital? Diario SPORT’s Albert Briva writes that the winger could lament his decision to leave Camp Nou due to the competition that PSG has in their attack.

This summer, the French side said goodbye to Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr. They replaced their production with Dembélé, Kolo Muani, Bradley Barcola, Marco Asensio, and Gonçalo Ramos. All this means there will be competition for the starting spots.

“In summary, Dembélé finds himself in a situation where his playing time and role have become significantly more competed for since his arrival in Paris, with the arrival of several new attacking options,” Briva wrote. “His lack of consistency, which was an issue during his time at Barcelona, and the risk of injuries could hinder his ambitions with the Parisian club.

“Furthermore, PSG’s manager, Luis Enrique, values performance above all and has a track record of making bold decisions regardless of a player’s status or reputation.”

PSG’s depth should be ideal for Dembélé, who has a history of injuries. Manager Luis Enrique can decide not to use him in the French Cup matches or if he needs to give his star a break for a contest in which Bradley Barcola can play.
