One of the noteworthy transfers from this summer window is Ousmane Dembélé leaving FC Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain. The 26-year-old had his release clause triggered by the French giants, resulting in the forward returning to France.
But why did Dembélé decide to leave Camp Nou and head to Paris? The former Stade de Rennes player spoke with Ligue 1’s official website and noted his decision to join PSG.
“I want to win trophies!” Dembélé told the Ligue 1 Show on beIN SPORTS. “To make the supporters and the city proud. It’s exciting and I hope we’ll do great things. I need to be ready and to do well from the off. I can’t wait. I hope I’ll soon win a first trophy with PSG.
“It’s vital for a footballer to have the coach’s trust. I talked to the president [Nasser al-Khelaïfi] as well, and the sporting director [Luis Campos], and I like the project they have here. I like the coach’s playing style. We know that Luis Enrique likes attacking, possession-based football. That suits me perfectly.”
Paris Saint-Germain drew 1-1 with Toulouse FC at Stadium TFC, marking their second consecutive draw to start the 2023-24 Ligue 1 season. Dembélé and Kylian Mbappé came off the bench in the second half.
Nonetheless, don’t expect the Frenchman to come off the bench when PSG faces RC Lens on Saturday at the Parc des Princes. After getting his first few minutes, Dembélé will likely be in the starting 11 as the capital club eyes its first win and three points of the campaign.
