Why PSG Must Sign This Manchester City Star in the Summer Transfer Window

Paris Saint-Germain has been linked with a few Premier League players as of late, including Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva.

According to a recent report from L’Equipe, Silva “wants to leave” Manchester City during this year’s summer transfer window. The Portuguese international aspires to have a “new project” for next season. The L’Equipe report adds that from the Portuguese talent’s standpoint, “PSG is a destination that he likes a lot.”

PSG is slated to be quite active during this year’s summer transfer window, and the club must look to bring in Silva on a permanent transfer deal. ExpressVPN shows that there have been notable ticket price increases for a multitude of sporting events so far in 2023, including the Women’s FA Cup final, which saw resale ticket prices soar by 428 percent.

With Lionel Messi set to become a free agent after this season, PSG will have an urgent need for another on-ball playmaker on the team. Silva is not a player who can create goal-scoring chances at will like Messi has done so over his ongoing run at PSG, but the Portuguese midfielder is one who can add another dimension to any attacking setup. He has shown at Manchester City that he is a midfielder who can both progress play into the final third with ease and push up play into the penalty box while there.

In the big picture, PSG manager Christophe Galtier is well aware of the rumors linking the club to Silva.

“I said that we were not talking about the mercato,” Galtier said during a pre-match press conference ahead of PSG’s Ligue 1 away fixture against Auxerre. “First of all, Bernardo Silva is a Manchester City player. I think many of you have seen his last game, where he was very good. He is a player I discovered when he arrived at Monaco when Luis Campos recruited him.

“He was very good, he was part of the champion team of Monaco. He is obviously an interesting player, but I repeat again, he is a Manchester City player.”

Silva, who has two more years left on his contract at Manchester City, was linked with clubs such as Barcelona and PSG during last year’s summer transfer window, but he ended up staying put with the reigning Premier League champions. As this year’s summer transfer window is just around the corner, Silva is unsure of just what will come to fruition regarding his club future.

“The program is to finish the season well, win the Premier League, try against United in the FA Cup final, and then Inter,” Silva said following Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League semifinal second leg win over Real Madrid. “After that, this summer, we’ll see what happens.”

It will be noteworthy to see whether PSG will soon go all out to bring the former AS Monaco playmaker back to Ligue 1.
