Paris Saint-Germain could see a lot of movement on their squad heading into the 2023-24 season. One possible departure is Marco Verratti, who is currently facing his most challenging time in the French capital.
Verratti is under contract until 2026 and if the 30-year-old does exit PSG during the summer transfer window, RMC Sport reported on Wednesday he wants to follow Lionel Messi and continue playing with the Argentine at all costs next season.
The French media outlet adds that Verratti is open to a departure during the next summer transfer window, a desire he no longer hides in private. Additionally, the pending exit of the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner from PSG isn’t a decision the Italy international approves of.
If the veteran does leave the Ligue 1 side in the coming months, it will help PSG financially as they won’t only receive a transfer fee. A Verratti departure would remove an €11 million per year salary from the French side’s wage bill.
Furthermore, RMC Sport concludes that under sporting advisor Luis Campos if a player no longer wishes to be at PSG, he will do everything possible to move them. Whether that means Verratti is leaving to join Messi elsewhere next season remains to be seen.
