Juan Bernat was at one point Paris Saint-Germain’s starting left-back. Now, Bernat sits behind Nuno Mendes on PSG’s depth chart at this position.
Nuno Mendes emerged as PSG’s go-to left-back in his first season at the club in the 2021-2022 campaign. The Portuguese full-back wound up tallying 27 appearances in Ligue 1 play last season.
Bernat has at the least received a fair share of playing time minutes this season. He has combined for 28 appearances in the UEFA Champions League and Ligue 1 competitions in the ongoing campaign, including a start as a left wing-back in PSG’s recent league win against Angers. He recorded one assist and created two goal-scoring chances during his 89 minutes of playing time in the contest.
After the match, Bernat took some time to touch on his future at PSG.
“I don’t know what will happen to me,” Bernat told Prime Video Sport France. “Once the season is over, we’ll see what happens. It’s true that it’s been a complicated season for me. It’s hard to find a rhythm when you don’t play all the time.
“When I do play, I give my all in every game. We’ll see what happens in the future.”
Overall, Bernat has two more years left on his contract at PSG.
