Former Portuguese forward Pauleta has claimed that Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe is the current “best player in the world.”
Mbappe is just coming off of a keen performance in PSG’s 3-0 away win over Olympique de Marseille on Ligue 1 matchday 25, chipping in with three goal contributions in the contest. Mbappe’s second goal of the fixture was a landmark one, as he moved into a tie with Edinson Cavani for the most goals scored in club history with 200.
Pauleta kept a close watch on Mbappe’s showing against Marseille, and the former La Liga winner was left in awe of the French international. In speaking to L’Equipe, the former PSG forward took some time to laud Mbappe as the top talent in world football today.
“We are in front of a phenomenon that will make history,” Pauleta said. “He is the best player in the world today. He deserves this record and I hope he will continue to score goals for PSG for a long time.”
Pauleta added that Mbappe has what it takes to have the “same career” as both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Mbappe has recorded 20 goal contributions in 21 matches played in Ligue 1 so far this season.
