Why PSG Needs to Move on From Neymar This Summer, Pundit Believes

There are various rumors regarding Paris Saint-Germain and the future of players such as Lionel Messi, whose contract expires in June, and Neymar Jr.

RMC Sport pundit Jérôme Rothen believes it’s time to pull the plug on the MNM attack. Additionally, the former midfielder wants the capital club to sell off Neymar to get his wages off the book.

At 31, Neymar is on the back end of his prime years and is under contract until 2027, so if he remains at PSG, they’ll see his decline at an expensive rate, so Rothen recommends finding another club to take him off their hands.

“And then Neymar, the question arises because apparently there are discussions with other big foreign clubs who may be interested in Neymar,” Rothen said Tuesday on RMC Sport. “There are not 15,000 anyway. There are only [English clubs] who could afford Neymar at the salary he has. I’m not talking about the transfer because I think PSG have also recorded that they will never sell Neymar for €200 million, or €220 million, as they bought it back then.

“But at least cut the price in half, and above all, save his salary because financial fair play went through that. If you want to rebuild something different the next year, really start again with a new sporting project, I think that PSG must part with the big salaries.”

Rothen also went after PSG’s decision to sign Messi in 2021 when the Argentine exited FC Barcelona abruptly as the Spanish club couldn’t afford to fit his wages and be compliant with La Liga’s Financial Fair Play rules. Furthermore, the pundit called upon sporting advisor Luis Campos and the French giants to label a signing a disappointment.
