As it stands, Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Angel Di Maria is set to leave the club at the end of the season as a free agent. With the summer transfer window looming ahead, he is garnering interest from Primeira Liga powerhouse Benfica, as noted by Portuguese journalist Pedro Almeida.
Benfica is “seriously interested” in signing Di Maria, who spent three seasons with the Portuguese side before his move to Real Madrid. However, such a reunion between the two sides is being deemed as “difficult” due to the Argentine’s “high salary.”
It remains to be seen on whether Di Maria would be open to settling on a lower salary than what he is currently earning at PSG in order to facilitate a move to Benfica.
PSG does have a mutual option extension that it could trigger in order to keep Di Maria, but club officials are reportedly not planning on doing so in the coming months.
Di Maria has so far scored three goals in 20 total Ligue 1 appearances this season.
