Over the past decade, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo dominated the debate over who the best player in the world is. As of late, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has been making a notable case to be the best talent in the sport today.

Following PSG’s Ligue 1 home win over Lorient, Mbappe was asked whether he believes that he is now the best player in the world. Overall, he (via L’Equipe) is leaving this debate up for others to decide.

“I always wanted to be, yes,” Mbappe said. “Then am I? That’s for people to say. When you’re the best, you don’t have to say it. If people think I am, so much the better.”

Mbappe tallied for five goal contributions in PSG’s win over Lorient, which now has him at a Ligue 1-leading 30 total goal contributions this season. From his potent performances in Ligue 1 to his world-class showings in the UEFA Champions League competition, the French international sure has put his name forth to be the top player in world football.

Mbappe and PSG will carry on with their Ligue 1 schedule in the upcoming away fixture against Clermont Foot on matchday 31.
