On the heels of Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 elimination against Real Madrid, the Parc des Princes crowd at the side’s Ligue 1 fixture against Bordeaux unleashed its frustrations towards Lionel Messi and Neymar. The two star forwards were booed and whistled when they touched the ball throughout the match.
In speaking after PSG’s 3-0 win in the fixture (via L’Equipe), manager Mauricio Pochettino provided for his reaction on the atmosphere in the contest and whether the two veteran goal-scorers were in any way affected by it.
“Nobody likes this background, it made me sad,” Pochettino said. “Everyone who loves PSG after Madrid’s disappointment is sad. I am saddened by what I experienced here today.
“We have all been affected. We understand the disappointment and frustration. We all experience this together, as a team. We have a responsibility to take responsibility for what happened. We share this disappointment of the supporters.”
Overall, Messi did not score or pick up an assist in the match. Neymar did chip in for a goal in the victory, although it did not stop the boos and whistles from coming to him.
For now, PSG will simply have to continue to move on ahead, as it now will meet AS Monaco up next for a key Ligue 1 fixture.
