Pochettino Analyzes What Went Wrong in PSG’s Ligue 1 Away Defeat to AS Monaco

Paris Saint-Germain suffered a 3-0 defeat to AS Monaco on Ligue 1 matchday 29. While PSG maintained keen possession throughout the course of the match, the side was unable to muster up a single goal, as it failed to convert on all of its six shots on target.

In speaking after the match (via L’Equipe), PSG manager Pochettino noted that this showing from his side is far from acceptable and that the squad must get over its UEFA Champions League round of 16 elimination to Real Madrid.

“Yes, it is inadmissible to start this way,” Pochettino said. “Afterwards, there is sporting shame. Now you have to move on, get over the frustration of the Champions League and think about giving your best. And have a competitive spirit.

“As I said, this is unacceptable. This first half is unacceptable. We didn’t have a fighting spirit, against a team that was affected. The way we played is not acceptable.”

Even with the defeat, PSG still sits comfortably at the top of the Ligue 1 standings and remains on track to soon clinch the league title. The side has recorded 65 points through 29 matches played and is currently 13 points above second place Rennes.

The final international break of the season has now come for the PSG squad, but the side will return to league play on April 3 with a home fixture against Lorient.
