Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico has completed his loan move to La Liga side Mallorca. PSG and Mallorca agreed to a half-season loan deal that will see the veteran Spanish goalkeeper return to the Ligue 1 side at the end of the season.
Overall, as he noted by the club’s official website, Rico is looking forward to doing what he can to help Mallorca at this stage in the league campaign.
“I thank the club for having trusted me to help the club until the end of the season,” Rico said. “Everyone has welcomed me wonderfully and I am eager to start helping the team and to achieve the common goal of staying up.
“I am a goalkeeper who tries to transmit calmness to the team from defence. I hope to be able to help as much as possible so that we are solid at the back and get points — that is the most important thing.”
Due to the addition of Gianluigi Donnarumma over the recent summer transfer window, Rico dropped a spot in PSG’s goalkeeper depth chart. As a result, Rico wound up making a mere one appearance for the Ligue 1 side over the first half of the season, which came as a substitute in the home fixture against Nantes.
Rico joins a Mallorca side that currently sits at 17th place in the La Liga standings. It remains to be seen on whether he may go on to compete for the side’s starting goalkeeper job.
