Neymar Reveals the Real Reason Behind the Aspiration to Rejoin Barcelona in 2019

The 2019 summer transfer window was among the more drama-filled ones in recent memory. For one, much was talk centered on whether Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar would rejoin Barcelona, but in the end, the two powerhouse clubs failed to reach an agreement on a transfer deal.

In speaking during his Netflix docuseries “Neymar: The Perfect Chaos” (via Le10Sport) the Brazilian forward reflected on why he aspired to rejoin the Catalan side over the 2019 summer transfer window.

“When I made the decision to leave PSG, it wasn’t because of a fan or a club,” Neymar said. “It’s because I saw that I felt better elsewhere.”

In the big picture, Neymar simply had nothing against PSG supporters.

“I never had anything against PSG supporters, nor against the club itself,” Neymar said. “It was never that. On the contrary. I am very grateful, we are on the same side, we defend the same shirt. I am here to help.”

Neymar has since gone on to sign a multiyear contract extension deal with PSG, which came after there was speculation over whether he would opt to sign with Barca over the 2021 summer transfer window.

Neymar is currently sidelined due to an ankle injury suffered during PSG’s Ligue 1 fixture against AS Saint-Etienne. Still, he could soon make his long-awaited return to in-game action with the club.
