As Paris Saint-Germain’s upcoming UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg clash with Real Madrid is mere weeks away, there is now a close watch on Brazilian forward Neymar and whether he may be available for the match.
Neymar has been sidelined since suffering a notable ankle injury in PSG’s Ligue 1 fixture against AS Saint-Etienne back in November. A recent medical update from the club did note that the forward has been taking part in individual training sessions as of late.
For PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino (via RMC Sport), he is at the least “hopeful” that the Brazilian international will be available for next month’s clash against the La Liga side.
“We don’t know yet, we hope so, we have to follow his progress, he has to keep running next week,” Pochettino said following the result against Reims. “We hope he will be there.”
PSG will have multiple key matches before the opening leg of its Champions League knockout stage clash with Real Madrid, including the Coupe de France knockout stage encounter with OGC Nice.
Neymar has so far featured in 10 matches in league play so far in the ongoing campaign.
