Video: ‘Stop Hiding Behind Qatari Money’ – Pundit Tells OM Owner Not to Use PSG’s Financial Resources as an Excuse for No Trophies

Over the weekend, Olympique de Marseille owner Frank McCourt spoke about his club’s challenges competing with a state-owned club like Paris Saint-Germain. Nonetheless, RMC Sport pundit Jérôme Rothen stated on his program “Rothen s’enflamme” that he isn’t buying these excuses made by McCourt.

Rothen stated that PSG’s financial advantage over other Ligue 1 clubs hasn’t stopped them from putting together projects to challenge the capital club. For example, AS Monaco, Lille OSC, and Stade Rennais have been French sides that have taken either the league title or domestic trophy from Les Parisiens during the Qatar Sports Investment era.

“When you are the third largest budget in France, and you have spent €200-million which has evaporated over the years to take players like Strootman, coaches and sports directors with whom you cannot build, that you had to dismiss players for allegedly serious faults like Adil Rami and others as well; that’s your mistakes, not Qatar’s or Qatar’s money,” Rothen said.

“Since McCourt has been here, there are three clubs that have won titles, Lille, Monaco, and Rennes in the Coupe de France. What is preventing Olympique de Marseille from being among these three teams in the future? I wish them well but stop hiding behind Qatari money.”
