Over the summer, Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma helped the Italy national team win the 2020 UEFA Euros. The 22-year-old played a significant role in the Azzurri beating England in the final at Wembley Stadium.
Donnarumma is grabbing the goalkeeping reigns for Italy from Gianluigi Buffon, and Juventus defender Georgio Chiellini spoke with DAZN about the qualities and differences that both goalkeepers bring to the table.
“Gigio is a keeper different from the others, as was Gigi Buffon. It’s obvious. We will see if it reaches its level over time. But Gigio is not a normal goalkeeper; he is out of the ordinary,” Chiellini said.
With a UEFA Euro under his belt, Donnarumma will help Italy qualify for the World Cup following their absence in 2018.
