‘I Am a Little Sad’ — Tuchel Reacts to Messi Signing With PSG

There are a varying of emotions in the footballing world following Lionel Messi’s decision to sign with Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer deal.

Some, like current Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, are not all too ecstatic with seeing Messi leave Barcelona.

Many well remember when Tuchel — then manager of PSG — touched on the rumors of Messi possibly joining the Ligue 1 giants over last year’s summer transfer window. Messi wound up staying with Barca for another season, but the German manager did not hide his excitement about the possibility of coaching the forward.

As Messi is now officially a PSG player, Tuchel stands a bit displeased that the Argentine’s run with Barca is truly now over, which the Chelsea boss spoke to Canal+ (via Le Parisien) about ahead of his team’s 2021 UEFA Super Cup Final against Villarreal.

“Lionel Messi is good for all the teams in the world,” Tuchel said. “I am a little sad that Messi will not finish his career at Barça. Messi and Barcelona were one. Like every coach, the PSG coach will have work to do.”

There is always the chance that Chelsea and PSG could meet in the UEFA Champions League over the upcoming season, which would certainly be a duel to watch.
