Di Maria Provides a Hint on Messi’s Possible Retirement Plans

As new Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi is now nearing the backend of his prime, many are now speculating on just when he may hang up his boots.

The Argentine forward has long been rumored to finish up his career with Argentina-based side Newell’s Old Boys — a club in which he featured at during his youth days as a footballer. However, Messi has also been linked to a possible move to Major League Soccer to play at Inter Miami.

For longtime Argentina national side teammate Angel Di Maria, he believes that Messi may not end up at Newell’s Old Boys over the latter stages of his career, which he revealed why to TyC Sports.

“I don’t believe Messi will return to Newell’s,” Di Maria said. “For me, it’s impossible, very difficult for him to achieve that in Argentine soccer. Although, it wouldn’t be bad to play a Central-Newell’s game with Leo in front.”

For now, Messi is looking to make the most out of his run with PSG, where he aims to help the team win the UEFA Champions League competition.

Retirement is surely not on the horizon just yet for the Argentine.
