The 1970 Podcast: Mbappé Decision Overshadows Start of PSG Season

As always, Paris Saint-Germain dominated the headlines this summer with several marquee transfers and a high-profile contract negotiation that will likely linger well into the season. Even with all that going on, this could be one of the best seasons in recent memory.

On the latest episode of The 1970, I’m joined by my co-host, Marc Damon, to discuss all of the latest PSG news and answer a few questions sent in by listeners. Oh, and we take a few minutes to bash beIN Sports, the current broadcaster of Ligue 1 matches in the United States.

Up first, we discuss Kylian Mbappé’s contract situation with PSG. The 22-year-old superstar can leave on a free transfer at the end of the season, or, sign an extension with PSG. Mbappé has remained silent up to this point, which has led to media speculation and frustrated fans. Is there anything PSG can do to convince the player to stay or will he remain a distraction all season?

Next, we discuss PSG’s bloated squad. Which players will be receiving a one-way ticket out of Paris and could Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director, make one more big splash in the transfer market by signing Manchester United’s Paul Pogba.

The show concludes with some comedy about beIN Sports programming, our prediction for Ligue 1, the UEFA Champions League, and the leading scorer. We also answer questions sent in by listeners about Mbappé, Pogba, and which formation Mauricio Pochettino will go with this season.

As always, thank you for listening, and be sure to subscribe and rate the show wherever you download your podcasts.
