Former French Manager Domenech Analyzes How PSG Should Handle the Goalkeeper Dilemma With Donnarumma and Navas

Paris Saint-Germain is slated to have a notable dilemma upcoming on who between Keylor Navas and Gianluigi Donnarumma will be its starting goalkeeper this season.

Navas shined for PSG this past season, as he posted key performances in all competitions and took home the Ligue 1 goalkeeper of the year award.

Still, PSG went out and signed Italian goalkeeper Donnarumma to a free transfer deal.

Many are split on who between these two talents should be the team’s go-to goalkeeper this upcoming season, but for former French national team manager Raymond Domenech, he is backing Donnarumma to take this role.

Domenech spoke further to L’Equipe about this matter.

“We were talking about PSG before Navas, and we will talk about PSG after Navas very quickly,” Domenech said. “If I am the coach, I take Donnarumma on the momentum of the Euro, there is a page that will turn and it was good.

“There is a future and the future is Donnarumma. To Navas, I explain that it would be good if he returned to Real Madrid, because it is impossible for him to remain as a number one. The two can not be in competition.”

For one, it will be noteworthy to see whether Donnarumma or Navas will go on to start in PSG’s upcoming 2021 Trophee des Champions Final against Lille OSC. The French powerhouse will be looking to win its third trophy of the calendar year.
