Pablo Sarabia singled out Paris Saint-Germain’s shortcomings in key matches as to why the French powerhouse failed to claim the Ligue 1 title this past season.
Unlike in previous campaigns, PSG faced struggles in some of the biggest matches of the league season. The French powerhouse dropped points against the likes of AS Monaco, Olympique Lyonnais, Lille OSC, and Olympique de Marseille over the recent campaign.
More importantly, both Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino failed to lead PSG to a single league win against Monaco, which proved to be a critical factor in the side finishing a mere point behind eventual Ligue 1 champions Lille.
In speaking to the Spanish-based outlet El Pais, Sarabia touched on PSG’s sluggish play over the league campaign.
“It has been a difficult year in which, without taking away any credit from Lille, who had a great season, we lost the league,” Sarabia said. “Honestly, we had matches that we should have won and maybe because of lack of concentration or whatever, we didn’t win them.
“We had many opportunities to take the lead, and we didn’t take advantage of them.”
At the least, PSG did finish off the season as Coupe de France winners. Still, PSG players surely were displeased to have not won Ligue 1.
